Faculty

The violin, viola, cello, and piano/theory instructors at Four Oaks are highly qualified in their field.  Please read on to learn more about our faculty's impressive educational and professional backgrounds.

Violin and Viola

Masha Masha Andreini, violin instructor, attended the Moscow Conservatory.  She was the winner of the 1992 Violin Concerto Competition at the University of Minnesota School of Music.  Mrs. Andreini graduated on full scholarship and with honors from Oberlin Conservatory with her Bachelor of Music degree and her Artist Diploma..  Masha performs with several professional orchestras in the Cleveland area, including City Music Cleveland, "Red" an Orchestra, and the Cleveland Opera Orchestra. She has performed recitals at the Cleveland Museum of Art, The Cleveland Music School Settlement, and Cleveland State University, as well as numerous recitals in Europe and Russia.  Mrs. Andreini, who also teaches privately in Shaker Heights, has over 18 years of teaching experience. She is the instructor for the current and the previous concert mistress of the Mentor High School Orchestra.

Amber Amber Inman, violin and viola instructor, studied music education at Cleveland State University. At CSU she was actively involved with the university orchestra (violin) and wind ensemble (flute and piccolo), and was a member of the University Chapter of Ohio Collegiate Music Educator's Association. Amber, who received her early training from Susan Knapp, studied at The Academy for Strings and Piano at Four Oaks from its inception until her graduation from Perry High School. As a student at Four Oaks, she studied privately and was an active member of the Four Oaks Ensemble. While at CSU, she studied violin privately with Daniel Reins, Molly Fung-Dumm, and Victor Liva, and violin and viola with Hanne-Berit Hahnemann. At Four Oaks Mrs. Inman instructs the Homeschooler's Orchestra, which is made up of violin, viola, cello, and flute students, with the assistance of Susan Knapp. A member of Musica Antiqua de Lago, The Four Oaks String Quartet, and Duo d'Archi, Ms. Inman serves as the director of The Intermezzo String Ensemble, and assists with conducting The Preludio Ensemble and The Four Oaks Youth Ensemble.

Susan Knapp, violin and viola instructor, and founder of Four Oaks Music, earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Kent State University, and studied special education at the graduate level at Kent State and Edinboro Universities.  Susan studied Suzuki Pedagogy at Capitol University in Columbus and the National Suzuki Institute at the University of Wisconsin.  She was the founder of the Ashtabula Youth Orchestra, a twenty-four member string orchestra which was in residence at Kent State University, Ashtabula Campus. Ms. Knapp, who utilizes both Suzuki and Conventional methods with her students, also teaches violin at The Andrews-Osborne Academy.  She is a member of the Ohio Music Educators Association, the Music Educators National Conference, and the Music and Drama Club of Lake County, and is a member in the 2007-2008 Registry for "Women of Excellence" from the National Association of Professional and Executive Women. Ms. Knapp serves as Director of The Preludio Ensemble and The Four Oaks String Ensemble, which has performed at recitals, Art in the Park, a fund-raising event for Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital, and nursing facilities in Northeast Ohio.  

Cello

Jerry Jerry Yarovich is a graduate of Odessa State Conservatory, Odessa, Ukraine.  He holds a Master of Arts in Cello Performance and a Master of Music Education degree.  Before arriving in the United States, he served as Assistant Principal Cellist for the State Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra in Odessa.  In the United States,  he has served as principal cellist and soloist with the Greenville Symphony Orchestra, and has performed solo recitals in the Cleveland area.   Mr. Yarovich, who has extensive experience with the wide range of classical repertoire for string quartet, is currently on the faculty at Cuyahoga Community College and the Solon Center for the Arts. In addition to private instruction, Jerry coaches cello ensembles. His high school students have all received superior ratings at the Ohio Music Educators Solo and Ensemble competitions, and he has been the instructor for the past two principal cellists of the Mentor High School Orchestra. Mr. Yarovich was recently added as adjunct faculty as a cello instructor for Lake Erie College, in Painesville, Ohio.

 

Piano

Chien-Hui Haynes, pianist, bassoon performer, and music instructor, holds a diploma from Idyllwild Arts Academy, a Bachelor of Music degree from California State University, and a Masters of Music degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music. Chien-Hui was recruited from Taiwan at the young age of twelve to further her music education in the United States. She has been teaching and performing since 1989, working with many well-known conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Mehli Mehta, John Williams, and Seiji Ozawa. From 2000-2006, she instructed piano, bassoon, recorder, and music theory at The Children's Creative Art Center in Granite Bay, California. Mrs. Haynes, who instructed music theory at The Cleveland Music Settlement, includes both solo material and theory in her private music lessons. She instructs recorder and theory in both private and group lessons for the Four Oaks Homeschoolers Program, as well as private piano lessons.

Roberta Whitely, pianist, is a staff accompanist and a member of the collaborative piano faculty at the Cleveland Institute of Music (CIM). She is also Head of the Accompanying Department at the Cleveland Music School Settlement. While holding a Master's Degree in collaborative Piano from CIM, Roberta has also studied at Indiana University and Baldwin-Wallace College. From 1991-2007, Roberta was a member of the piano faculty at the Fine Arts Association in Willoughby and, recently, she began teaching at the Academy for Strings and Piano at Four Oaks. For several years, Roberta has enjoyed her position as the accompanist for the music program at Lake Erie College in Painesville. She also enjoys serving as the lead pianist for St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Concord and as the Director of Music for St. Hubert's Episcopal Church in Kirtland Hills. Roberta is currently the pianist for the Painesville Women's Chorus (5 years) as well as for the Lake County Messiah Chorus (12 years). If you enjoy chamber music, you can also find her playing in Hudson during the summers a the Encore School for Strings.

 

Preschool Music and Movement Class

Gloria Hobi, pianist, has been teaching piano for over fifteen years. She received her bachelors degree in Piano Pedagogy from Bob Jones University. Since her graduation in 1992, she has had experience not only in teaching up to forty private students yearly, but also has taught preschool and elementary music classes, and has directed children's choirs and ensembles. In response to the many parents who desired to give their children a love of music at an early age, Mrs. Hobi began teaching preschool class lessons in her private studio in 2002. The outcome has been a class with an exciting environment that encourages children to continue coming back each week with enthusiasm. Visiting Conductor and Clinician

 

FacultyRyan Haskins holds degrees from Baldwin-Wallace Conservatory of Music in Cleveland, and from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff, Wales UK. At Baldwin-Wallace, Ryan was conducting student of and assistant to Maestro Dwight Oltman. While in Cleveland, he was Music Director of The Mozart Sinfonietta of Cleveland from 2000-2005 and was founding Music Director of the Baldwin-Wallace Contemporary Orchestra. He celebrated his radio debut concert in the spring of 2003 on WCLV in a national broadcast conducting the Baldwin-Wallace Symphony Orchestra.

Ryan, who received his early training from Susan Knapp, was Director of Ensembles and taught piano at the Academy for Strings and Piano at Four Oaks from 2000 to 2005, where he continues to return as a guest conductor and clinician. A former Music Director and Principal Conductor of the Euclid Orchestra, Ryan has worked with such ensembles as the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, and the National Chorus of Wales. He is currently secretary of the international organization 'K12', an elite collection of some of the world's leading conductors who encourage international educational exchange and the promotion of young musicians throughout the European Union. Mr. Haskins is currently studying with, and serving an assistantship with, Gustav Meier, Director of the Graduate Conducting Program at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University. Gustav Meier is acclaimed in the music world as an outstanding conductor and truly gifted teacher.
